I pray that you will be blessed with kindness and peace from God, who is and was and is coming. Revelation 1:4 What is Advent? The season of Advent is the four weeks of waiting and preparing for the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day. The name comes from the Latin word “ad-vent-us”, which means “coming.” The prophet Isaiah tells the hope of the Israelites, who waited for the coming of the Messiah. During Advent we look back at the birth of Jesus and look forward to the second coming, while paying attention to the grace of the present. Do you not know or have you not heard? The Lord is the eternal God, creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint nor grow weary, and his knowledge is beyond scrutiny. Isiah 40: 28 Evergreen is part of our Christmas decorations because it represents the eternity of God. Maybe it is a tree, wreath or garland that is used in your home. We will read an informational book about the Christmas tree as well as a few fictional stories. We will discuss some new vocabulary words and will share things that we put on our own Christmas trees at home. Candle The Scriptures say, “God commanded light to shine in the dark.” Now God is shining in our hearts to let you know that his glory is seen in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 We will be making advent wreaths and candles out of construction paper.
